BEAN OF THE MONTH
Make the Most of Your Home Brew
Whether ramping up for a new school year or wrapping-up our summer adventures, life can get busy. Your morning might not allow time for a pour-over or French press (or a stop at one of our locations), but you can still enjoy a great cup of coffee. We’re here to guide you in making a fantastic cup with your trusty coffee pot.
Here are our tips and tricks for brewing a quality pot of coffee at home.
PS: This applies to basically any auto-drip coffee brewer you have.
– Coffee Beans Matter
Cheap beans in a grocery store are cheap for a reason. Quality beans tell you where they're from, how they're roasted, and their flavor profile. We believe our beans are the best because we ensure every step behind the scenes delivers the best-tasting coffee to you daily. (Ahem. TRY THE PERU.)
– Fresh Ground Coffee is Best
The longer the grounds sit the more flavor they lose because of releasing aromas. If you don’t have a coffee grinder at home, we suggest buying whole bean coffee and having it ground for you on the spot.
– Use the Water You Drink
Whether tap or filtered, whatever water you prefer to drink is the water that is fine to use.
– Coffee to Water Ratio
A general guideline is called the “Golden Ratio”: 1 to 2 tablespoons of ground coffee for every six ounces of water. If you like it stronger, add more grounds!
– Clean Your Coffee Pot
It can be easy to clean the filter basket and carafe and ignore the rest of the machine, but water does cause some build up. We suggest either using a Descaler (found at your local grocery store) or vinegar. Fill up your water level to equal half vinegar/half water and brew like normal. Then wait about 15-30 minutes and repeat the process twice with water only.
Soak up every last bit of summer doing what you love most! And remember, we’re here to fuel your adventures. Cheers to sunny days and great brews!
