Coffee Made By You

Coffee Made By You

Written By Cindy Reinhard

There is nothing we love more than seeing your face as you swing by to pick up your favorite cup of coffee from one of our locations. That being said, we are the first to recognize that doing that every day isn’t always possible! So for the coffee-made-by-you days, we want to make sure you have the right tools to get that amazing barista-made flavor right at home.

Our Bean of the Month subscription is a great way to make sure you have your favorite beans on hand at home. Sign up today and get 30% off your first order.

Brew at Home with the CHEMEX

The Chemex gives you the coffee you love without needing the skills of your local barista. How?

The brewing process removes the bitter taste often associated with coffee; It’s a simple and clean way of brewing and avoids the “extra flavor” of the water mineral deposits in your coffee machine; and Since the Chemex doesn’t sit on a burner, there is no burnt flavor to worry about.
To help get you going on coffee made by you, we’re taking 10% OFF our 8 Cup Chemex Coffee Maker through the month of April!

Let’s get started.

Coffee Making Tools:

  • Chemex
  • Chemex Paper Filter
  • Digital Scale with a Timer
  • Gooseneck Kettle
  • Grinder (if pre-ground, get coarse!)

Measure out the following using your scale:
  • 500 grams of water (temp range of 195 to 205 degrees)
  • 31 grams of your favorite Daily Rise blend coffee (for the 8 cup Chemex)

Looking for a new favorite bean? Try our delicious light roast, the Costa Rica Santa Elena. Brought to you by one of the first female-owned coffee plantations, the Santa Elena is perfect for spring with its honey, caramel, and raisin flavors.

The Method.

  • Open the filter and put in the Chemex with three sheets covering the spout.
  • Pour hot water to wet the filter and then discard the water.
  • Add your coffee.
  • First pour: apply roughly 50 grams of water in a circular motion until the grounds are fully wet.
  • Allow the coffee to bloom (about 30-45 seconds).
  • Second pour: Add roughly 200 more grams of water in a circular motion.
  • Let the coffee drip all the way through.
  • Third pour: Add the remaining 250 grams of water with the same process.
  • Stir the coffee 4 times in each direction.
  • Allow the coffee to fully extract - takes about 6 minutes.
  • Discard the filter.
  • Swirl the coffee, pour, and enjoy!

We have a brew guide for the Chemex and a couple other great brew at home options available on our Daily Rise website - check it out!
